Husband and I have been keeping busy here in Southern California. It is as hard as people say to get jobs here and to just live here. We have been blessed by our friends and their parents, to let us live with them for cheap rent. Also blessed that I have a stable job, and that Billy has at least a part-time job as of now. Others are opening up with more available hours for seasonal help for him. Aside from these boring details, we are having fun too. Recently, we went to a pumpkin farm in Fallbrook called Lavender Hill Pumpkin. I love pumpkin farms probably because of growing up with Young's Farm every October in Prescott, Arizona. I'd much rather go to an actual farm with fields of growing crops, rather than a kiddie-fair where pumpkins are just laid out for you on hay stacks. Besides my love for real farms, I think Billy has a love for them too or at least fond memories. He used to work at Young's Farm. So he never discourages the thought of finding an authentic pumpkin farm, and I think we found a good one this time. It isn't as big as Young's Farm, if you're familiar with it, it doesn't have the turkey or chicken coops, animal farm section, or other growing crops, all it is, is a plot of land abounding with beautiful pumpkins. Mike and Libby Pierce own the patch, which just so happens to be in their enormous front yard. It's obvious that this is not a business venture, because they love the pumpkins so much they are prone to naming them according to the pumpkins characteristics. Literary, history and film nerds will delight, as we did, at pumpkins like Caliban, Percival Lowell and Yojimbo. They grow only a few typical pumpkin varieties, but most of them are unique exotic varieties. So it is a fun experience to learn about these different pumpkins, and to see them in their natural growing environment. Don't stop by if you're in a hurry. If Libby is out there, she'll have a lot to say...basically whatever her mind takes her to. But it's never dull. She's a riot. They're only open until the 31st of this month, so hurry in. I was informed though, that in the spring artists are welcome to come in to paint, so I might be doing that as well...
